(TRENTON, ON) – On Sunday June 12th, 2016, at approximately 7:45pm officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Quinte West Detachment were dispatched to an address on Belvedere Road in Trenton. A 29 year old Trenton man had barricaded himself inside his residence and made threats to destroy the residence following a domestic related dispute.
OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactical Response Unit (TRU), Crisis Negotiation teams, Canine Unit and Quinte West OPP Crime Unit were utilized. On Monday June 13th, 2016, shortly after 1:00am the lone barricaded man was safely arrested by the OPP Tactical Response Unit. There were no injuries.
A subsequent search of the residence revealed a small grow operation and a quantity of cannabis marijuana and other drug paraphernalia were located and seized.
The accused man was held for bail and appeared in court on Monday June 13th, 2016. He has been charged with the following offences:
Utter Threats – Damage Property;
Attempt Arson – Damage to Property;
Produce Schedule II substance – Cannabis marijuana;
The accused has been remanded back into custody and will appear in court again on Thursday June 16th, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim(s).
