(TOWN OF PENETANGUISHENE, ON) – On January 15, 2016 at approximately 7:12 a.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of an impaired driver. The motor vehicle was driving in a suspicious manner on Main Street in Penetanguishene, ON. The motor vehicle was stopped by police on Highway 93 just outside Penetanguishene a short time later.
As a result of the investigation the driver identified as Gordon Merle MERRITT (age 56) of Penetanguishene, ON was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to Southern Georgian Bay OPP for further tests and was found to have over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his body. He is now facing the following charges:
Driving While Ability Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
He was also served a 90 day Automatic Driver’s Licence Suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland Ontario on January 28, 2016.
