(NORWICH, ON) – On April 23, 2015 at approximately 10:40 p.m. while conducting on ongoing initiative directed towards break and enters in the Village of Norwich Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were able to respond quickly to a break and enter in progress on North Court Street in Norwich.
Members of the public alerted police to the break and enter after observing damage to an entry door and observing a light from within the empty residence.
The quick call to police allowed them to respond within minutes and arrest the suspect.
Officers from Oxford County including the Oxford County street crimes unit, Norfolk County, and the West Region Canine Unit all responded to assist with the break and enter in progress.
As a result of the investigation, 31 year old Gordon Eric DYKSTRA of Norwich was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following:
Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
Possession Break In Instruments
Fail to Comply with Recognizance
The male is being held in custody pending a hearing on a future date.
The OPP is asking residents to be vigilant in recognizing suspicious people or vehicles around empty residences. The public should report this immediately to their local police service. It is important for this information to get to police when the suspects may still be in the area.
