Goose Collision – One Sent To Hospital

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Monday, July 20, 2015, at approximately 12:28 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a motor vehicle collision involving a goose on Grey Rd. 17 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

A 2006 Ford COF pick-up truck was being driven west bound on Grey Rd. 17, west of Zion Church Rd, when a goose, in flight, collided with the driver’s side window causing it to break. The 44 year old driver from Georgian Bluffs was transported to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries to her left eye as a result of the shattered glass.

Motorists are all too familiar with the potential hazards that wildlife such as deer, racoons, skunks and even domestic animals such as dogs and cats pose to the motoring public.

Grey County OPP caution motorists that birds, such as turkeys, geese, ducks, and pheasants, can also pose a serious hazard, especially when driving in rural areas where these birds are a part of the landscape.

In June 2014, Provincial Constable Peter Tucker, of the OPP Golden Helmets suffered serious life-altering injuries after being struck by a goose in flight while he was on his motorcycle taking part in a training exercise north of Barrie.

Expect the unexpected.
