(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On July 20, 2016 shortly after 4:30 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a float plane sinking into Roberts Lake in Seguin Township. Cottagers observed a float plane taking off and it tipped over into the water. The OPP, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Seguin Fire responded and located the tail and wing protruding out of the water at the site. Local residents had already picked up the pilot by boat before emergency services arrived. The pilot, a plane mechanic, was the single occupant and was not injured.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was notified of the occurrence.
The OPP and Emergency services would like to thank the local residents for their quick thinking and action in assisting the pilot.
