(Ottawa, ON) – May 20, 2015, The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Ottawa Detachment responded to 911 calls of a pedestrian attempting to remove a family of ducks from Highway 417.
At approximately 9:15 am, officers responded to a report that a family of ducks was seen on Highway 417 eastbound near the Carling Avenue overpass. An additional call was received reporting that a pedestrian was seen attempting to remove the family of ducks from the highway. Both the ducks and the pedestrian were not located upon police arrival to the location.
The OPP is reminding drivers if you observe animals on the Highway to:
Do not stop in a live lane of traffic to assist animals;
Call 911 should they feel that the hazard is an emergency; and
Pull over to a safe location and remain in their vehicle.
Any driving behaviour that puts other motorists in danger is a problem. It is the responsibility of Ontario motorist to direct their attention to driving safely.
