(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A 37 year old male is facing three charges following a traffic stop on March 22, 2014. Just before 7:00 p.m. a GMC Sierra pickup was observed speeding northbound on Bluewater Veterans Highway at Gore Road. A Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped the driver for the speeding offence and while speaking with him the officer detected alcohol on the driver’s breath.
A roadside screening test was administered which the driver failed. He was arrested at the scene and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both tests were over the legal limit. A search of the pickup incident to the driver’s arrest revealed an open can of beer in the console.
As a result, Glen WELCH, 37, from Glencoe, has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Speeding and Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on April 14, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
