Gerry SOUTH – Flight From Police, Drive While Disqualified, Theft, Breach, etc

(NAPANEE, ON)- On Tuesday, July 28th just after 5 p.m. an officer with the Napanee detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police on patrol noticed a male, known to him as being a disqualified driver, operating a silver four door BMW on River Road in the Town of Greater Napanee. There were two other occupants in the vehicle.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle the driver accelerated southbound on County Road 8, weaving through a busy construction site at a high rate of speed. While travelling through the construction site, numerous vehicles were forced off the road, and the suspect vehicle continued southbound on County Road 8.

The officer lost sight of the vehicle briefly but was subsequently located on County Road 9. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot into a wooded area. Police set up containment in the area and the three suspects were later observed in a small dinghy, attempting to paddle across the Bay of Quinte to the Deseronto area.

With the assistance of residents in the area police were able to utilize three vessels and arrested the suspects on the water.

Charged with Flight from Police, Driving While Disqualified, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Theft Under $5,000 and Breach of Probation is 50 year-old Gerry SOUTH of Napanee.

22 year-old Andrew MacDONALD of Napanee and 18 year-old Alisha THOMSON both face charges of Theft Under $5,000

All three were held at Napanee OPP Detachment, pending a bail hearing today.
