(IGNACE, ON) – On May 19, 2017, Ignace members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a theft of gas from K & S Petro Canada in Ignace. The suspect vehicle headed Eastbound on Highway 17 and eventually turned down a side road approximately 40 km East of Ignace.
The suspect vehicle was located again on Hwy 599 and a tire deflation device (spike belt) was successfully deployed. Officers located the suspect attempting to steal another vehicle and subsequently arrested him in a parking lot of a business in Ignace.
Charged with the following offences is Gordon RAFUSE, 35 years of age of Halton Hills, Ontario:
1. Flight while pursued by peace officer contrary to Section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code.
2. Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle contrary to Section 249(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
3. Theft under $5000.00 of a motor vehicle contrary to Section 334 (b) of the Criminal Code.
4. Theft under $5000.00 contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code.
5. Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 contrary to Section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
6. Possession of Property Obtained by crime under $5000.00 contrary to Section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
7. Fail to comply with recognizance contrary to Section 145(3) of the Criminal Code X4.
8. Driving while under suspension contrary to Section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
RAFUSE was held in custody and will appear for a Bail Hearing in Sioux Lookout Court on May 24, 2017.
