Garden Gnome Thief Arrested

  1. Garden Gnome thief arrested

    On May 18, 2015 at 5:30 a.m., a concerned citizen contacted Guelph Police to report a male in the area of Burns Drive and Nicklin Avenue possibly stealing garden lights. Police located a male who matched the description and he was found to be in possession of stolen garden solar lights and several garden gnomes, he was arrested. The items had been stolen from the area of Burns Drive and Strathmere Road.

    Mark Leitch, 42 years of Guelph has been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He will appear in court on July 7, 2015.

    Some items have been returned to their rightful owners, however, there are several outstanding items that need to be claimed. Anyone missing the above mentioned items living in this area are to call the property unit at 519-824-1212 ext. 7338 as the items are currently being stored at the Guelph Police Station.

    2. Downtown disturbance leads to arrest

    On May 18, 2015 at 3:00 a.m., the Guelph Police responded to a disturbance at MacDonell Street and Wyndham Street. The disturbance became violent when one male allegedly head butted and punched another male. Police arrested the responsible male and the victim was taken to hospital for injuries to his face which included a lost tooth.

    Sheldon Frey, 28 years of Elmira has been charged with assault cause bodily harm. He will appear in court on July 7, 2015.

    3. Break and enter

    On May 17, 2015, the Guelph Police went to a Cardigan Street business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime overnight by smashing a window. The theft of MMA clothing and various gear is reported.

    4. Thefts over the weekend

    Over the weekend the Guelph Police investigated:

    Two thefts of copper wiring from PNR Rail Works work sites.

    Four reports of stolen bicycles from residential properties.

    Three reports of thefts from motor vehicles.
