Fraudulent Credit Card Group Charged

On May 29th, 2014, Peterborough County OPP was dispatched to a suspicious person call in Selwyn Township. Officers attended and were made aware of multiple fuel transactions over a period of time that appeared to be out of the ordinary. Members of the Crime Unit and the Caledon OPP Detachment began an investigation identifying a number of persons that appeared to be using stolen credit cards to purchase fuel that was later sold at three different gas stations. This investigation was completed with the assistance of a number of support units of the OPP. It was identified that the gas stations in Bewdley, Caledon and Vaughan were being operated by an independent operator under contract.

A total of 9 people are charged with 8 different offences including Fraud over $5000, Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence, Possession of a Credit Card, Possession of Credit Card Data,Traffic Credit Card Data, Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5000, Identity Theft, and Participation in a Criminal Organization. As a result of this investigation, three Criminal Code Search Warrants were executed in Bewdley, Caledon and Vaughan where police seized evidence relating to the charges.
