(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) – The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) caution about a number of frauds still affecting residents in Middlesex County.
On March 6, 2016, a Thames Centre, Ontario, resident received three automated calls stating the recipient owed money to the government. They were advised to immediately consult a lawyer (as legal action was pending), and contact the caller.
On March 15, 2016, a Middlesex Centre, Ontario, resident received a phone call from a male stating he was with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and requested the recipient’s social insurance number (SIN).
On March 21, 2016, a North Middlesex, Ontario, resident received a call from a female identifying herself as a bank employee, stating there was problem with the recipient’s account. A male then came on the line, identifying himself as a senior manager, and directed the recipient to several wire transfer locations to assist with the investigation.
On March 23, 2016, a Southwest Middlesex, Ontario, resident received unsolicited mail from the Netherlands, stating they were the recipient of a large monetary prize, but had to send money in order to collect it.
On March 23, 2016, a Southwest Middlesex, Ontario, resident received a phone call stating the recipient had won the lottery. They were directed to send money in order to receive the prize.
On March 24, 2016, a Lucan Biddulph, Ontario, resident received a phone call from a male who stated he was from the CRA. The recipient was directed, in order to avoid arrest and prosecution, to attend a number of services to wire transfer funds.
On March 30, 2016, a Lucan Biddulph resident received a letter with a $2500.00 bank draft enclosed. The recipient was directed to contact the letter writer prior to depositing the draft.
