Four Stunt Drivers Charged

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) –Members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had a busy weekend in the County of Brant laying four stunt driving charges in the following four separate incidents:

On Saturday 26 March 2016 at approximately 8:00 a.m. a County of Brant OPP officer stopped a 2011 Nissan Sentra being driven by a 22-year-old Brantford man for driving 138 km/h on County Road #18 which is a posted 80 km/h zone.

On Saturday 26 March 2016 at approximately 9:30 a.m. a County of Brant OPP officer stopped a 2015 Ford F-150 being driven by a 50-year-old County of Brant man for driving 110 km/h on Oakland Road which is a posted 50 km/h zone.

On Saturday 26 March 2016 at approximately 11:45 a.m. a County of Brant OPP officer stopped a 2013 Volkswagen Passat being driven by a 29-year-old Toronto man for driving 123 km/h on Oakland Road which is a posted 50 km/h zone.

On Sunday 27 March 2016 at approximately 12:10 a.m. a County of Brant OPP officer stopped a 2012 Honda Civic being driven by a 22-year-old Hamilton man for driving 166 km/h on Highway #403 which is a posted 100 km/h zone.

All the drivers were charged under section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic act (HTA) for stunt driving by speeding 50 km/h more than posted limit and had their drivers licence suspended for 7 days. They also all had their vehicles impounded for 7 days.

Aggressive driving is one of the “Big Four” driving behaviours that contribute to road fatalities in Ontario and that the OPP targets as part of its Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP), in our efforts to save lives.

The County of Brant OPP are reminding all motorists that the minimum fine for Stunt Driving upon conviction is $2,000.

All four drivers will appear in Provincial Court, Brantford, Ontario at a later date to answer to their charges.
