(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) As a result of straight pins found in food items at the Food Basics store on 975 Wallace Ave. North in Listowel on Thursday afternoon April 21, 2011, the store was closed as a safety precaution.
A Perth County OPP investigation has revealed that straight pins were found by Food Basics employees in fruit and meat. An immediate inspection of all remaining products in the store revealed no further evidence of tampering. The Perth County OPP crime unit, in cooperation with the store management and The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is continuing to investigate this food tampering incident.
The Perth County OPP after their public appeal has not received any calls from Food Basics Customers who have located any foreign objects in food or discovered any tampering to products purchased at the Listowel store.
As a result, Metro Inc., the owners of Food Basics will be re-opening the Food Basics store at 7a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011.
