Five Overdue Boaters Located Safe

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) – On Thursday, August 22, 2013 at approximately 8:16 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of five (5) overdue boaters.

The five men were last seen around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, when they left a private dock located on Ashgrove Lane in the Municipality of Meaford, aboard a 20’ Seadoo Wake Boat. Their destination was unknown.

RCC Trenton was notified and several resources were deployed including the RCC Hercules and Helicopter. The Bruce Peninsula OPP Marine Unit, the Canadian Coast Guard and a vessel from the DND – Land Forces Central Meaford assisted in the search.

Just before 1:00 p.m. today, the vessel was located by the RCC Hercules aircraft approximately 9 miles north east of Griffith Island on Georgian Bay. All five occupants, Gil VANDERSCHOT, 47, of the Municipality of Meaford; Christopher MCCALL, 37, of the Municipality of Meaford; Nathan CRAWFORD, 25, of Tara; Zachary JONES, 26, of South Hampton and Derek STONEMAN, 30, of Owen Sound were reported to be in good condition. The vessel was being towed back to Meaford by the CCG Providence.

Grey County OPP continue to investigate.
