(NAPANEE) – A firefighter with the Loyalist Township Fire Department lost his life while fighting a fire at an apartment complex in Amherstview late Saturday afternoon. The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police, Napanee Detachment, and the Ontario Coroner’s Office.
Emergency Services including the fire department, paramedics and OPP responded to the apartment building on Amherst Drive at approximately 5:30pm after reports of a fire in the building. While members of the fire department were fighting the fire one member suffered injuries and was transported to hospital by paramedics. The 45-year-old male fire fighter died in hospital. No one else suffered injuries as a result of the fire.
The apartment complex has been evacuated while the investigation is ongoing. Damage from the fire was limited to one apartment.
