Fire – $500,000 In Milking Equipment Destoryed

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Saturday, May 23, 2015 at approximately 8:04 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a barn fire on Hwy. 6 & 10, south of Sunny Valley Rd., in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

Grey County OPP, along with the Inter-Township, Chatsworth and Meaford Fire Departments responded to the fire which was fully evolved. There was no livestock inside the barn; however, milking equipment valued at $500,000 was destroyed in the fire.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was notified.

The cause of the fire is unknown but it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

Hwy. 6 & 10 from Grey Rd. 18 (Rockford) south to Grey Rd. 16 was closed temporarily for the safety of first responders and to allow the fire department to access water off the highway.

The Inter-Township Fire Department continues to investigate.
