(HALIBURTON, ON) – Officers from the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been actively conducting R.I.D.E. checks throughout Haliburton County as part of the Festive R.I.D.E. Program. After the fourth week of the campaign officers have conducted 87 R.I.D.E. programs, with 3908 vehicles checked; 1 driver charged with Impaired Driving; 17 roadside tests conducted; 2 x 3-day suspensions; 3 Drug Possession charges and 20 Highway Traffic Act charges. There were also 3 non – R.I.D.E. related Impaired Driving charges during this time. The Festive R.I.D.E. Campaign runs from November 23, 2013 – January 02, 2014.
Officers from the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on December 23, 2013 on Hwy 118 at Victoria Street in Haliburton, Municipality of Dysart et al. Officers stopped a vehicle and as a result of an investigation, arrested the male driver with possession of marihuana. Officers also located a large quantity of contraband cigarettes in the vehicle, totaling approximately 950 cartons or 190,000 cigarettes. Erick BEAUCAGE, AGE 35 from Sturgeon Falls Ontario has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of unmarked cigarettes and possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden Ontario on February 05, 2014.
