(Oro-Medonte, ON) – On August 29, 2014 at approximately 11:50 a.m., members of the Barrie Detachment Marine Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while patrolling Lake Simcoe stopped a father and his 9 year old son operating two separate personal watercrafts.
The father was Charged with “Allowing a person under 16 years of age to operate a personal watercraft†under the Canada Shipping Act.
Operators must be 16 years of age or older and have proof of competency on board to operate a personal watercraft.
OPP Marine Units will have a presence on the waterways to help prevent drowning and other incidents on Ontario waterways this weekend. Remember to wear a certified flotation device and don’t drink and boat.
