(ADJALA-TOSORONTIO TOWNSHIP) – On Sunday, November 8, 2015 at approximately 2:15 p.m., a member from the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of County Road 50 and County Road 1, Adjala-Tosorontio Township.
The officer observed a silver Toyota Corolla that was travelling northbound on County Road 50 operating in an erratic manner. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to stop for police.
As the officer pursued the vehicle, the speeds increased to approximately 170 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, when the officer terminated the pursuit for public safety concerns.
The driver of the motor vehicle eventually pulled to the side of the road where he was apprehended. In the vehicle, along with the accused, 40 year old Suwenthiran IYAMPILLAI of Alliston were his two children, aged 14 and 9 years. IYAMPILLAI was arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Flight from Police. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on December 10, 2015.
Investigations are continuing into the clear safety risks the accused had placed both his children and other members of the public.
