(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On January 2, 2015 at 2:47 am, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Rainy River District Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were dispatched to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision on Lake Despair involving one snow machine. The area is located approximately 48 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, ON. The collision occurred when the driver of a 2014 Polaris snow machine struck a dock structure located on the shoreline. The driver was confirmed dead by emergency personnel at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as Charles LAMBERT, age 46 years of Alberton Township.
A post mortem examination was scheduled for today at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, ON. The scene has been released. OPP continue to work in conjunction with the Regional Coroner’s Office, OPP Technical Traffic Crash Investigators and the OPP North West Region Highway Safety Division to investigate the collision.
