(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Haldimand County detachment continues to investigate a single motor vehicle collision at a Smithville Road, Haldimand County, ON address.
On Friday September 13th, 2013 at approximately 4:40 pm a grey 2010 Mazda car was travelling north bound on Smithville Road when for unknown reasons the car left the roadway and struck a tree along the east ditch.
As a result of the collision the 31 year old female driver from the Niagara Region, ON was trapped in the vehicle and sustained life threatening injuries. Haldimand County Fire Department members extricated the driver and she received emergency medical treatment at scene from Haldimand County paramedics before being transported to Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville, ON. She was then flown by an air ambulance to a Hamilton Health Sciences Centre hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are assisting with the investigation.
Smithville Road was closed for several hours.
Identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
