Fatal Plane Crash – Name Withheld Pending Next Of Kin Notification

(BLANDFORD BLENHEIM TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On Saturday May 13, 2017 at 9:25 p.m., the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a missing person from Blandford Blenheim Township. The male was last seen at approximately 11:00 a.m., on Saturday May 13, 2017 leaving a private airstrip, piloting his small plane.

A search was commenced with OPP and the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre (JRCC). At approximately 6:19 a.m. on Sunday May, 14, 2017, the small, fixed wing, single engine aircraft was located crashed by Search and Rescue Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton members, just east of the airstrip on Township Road 12 in Blandford Blenheim Township. Officers attended the scene with Oxford County EMS, and Blandford Blenheim Fire Department (Drumbo).

The lone occupant of the plane was pronounced dead at the scene. Identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The investigation is continuing by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) , with the assistance of the OPP and the office of the coroner.
