(PORT HOPE, ON) –At 1:24am Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 west of the Wesleyville exit involving two tractor trailers.
Concerns were raised over the contents of one of the trailers and the Ministry of the Environment was notified. It was later determined that the contents presented no environmental concerns and was not hazardous.
As a result of this collision, one driver, a 44 year old Brighton man was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
All westbound lanes of Highway 401 at the Wesleyville exit (Port Hope) remain closed until further notice. Traffic is being re-routed at the Wesleyville exit north to County Road 2 then west to Newtonville Road and south back to Highway 401.
OPP Technical Traffic Collisions Investigators (TTCI) are currently on scene assisting detachment members with the investigation.
