(HOWICK TOWNSHIP, ON) On November 26, 2012 at around 2:20 p.m., Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Howick Volunteer Fire Department were called to a collision at the intersection of Fordwich Line and Creamery Road.
A pickup truck travelling west failed to negotiate the stop sign on Creamery Road and collided with a transport truck that was travelling north on Fordwich Line.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 59 year old male from Howick Township was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the transport truck, a 37 year old Howick Township male was treated for minor injuries and released from Listowel Memorial Hospital.
The transport truck was carrying a load of Ammonium Sulfate so the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) has been contacted. They plan to attend during daylight hours on November 27, 2012 to assist with removing the truck from the ditch.
Traffic will be routed around the area for a few more hours this evening while the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team conducts an investigation. It is expected that traffic will be restricted again tomorrow around the area while the transport truck is removed.
The investigation is continuing and the OPP is asking anyone for information to please contact the Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
