Fatal Collision Update: Deceased Owen Sound Man Identified

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of the OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI), is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Hwy. 26, just east of Grey Rd. 5, in the Municipality of Meaford at approximately 8:00 a.m. today, Tuesday, October 27, 2015. The Inter-Township Fire Department and Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) assisted at the scene.

Preliminary investigation has determined that the lone driver of a 2015 Kia Soul vehicle was travelling eastbound on Hwy. 26. The vehicle entered the westbound lane and collided head on with a 2006 Kenworth tractor trailer.

The driver of the Kia was extricated from the vehicle and taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased driver has been identified as 61-year old Eric WESTHOLM, of Owen Sound.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 48-year old man from Mount Forest, was not injured.

Hwy. 26 is closed between Grey Rd. 5 and Grey Rd. 11 in the Municipality of Meaford. Motorists are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
