(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a fatal collision which occurred at approximately 3:59 p.m. on June 5, 2015, on Centre Road at Nairn Road.
A black Ford car was travelling westbound on Nairn Road. It came to a stop at the westbound stop sign and flashing red light, at Centre Road. The car then proceeded into the intersection, and was struck by a red International transport truck and trailer loaded with fertilizer. The truck was travelling on Centre Road in the northbound direction, which has a flashing amber light. The two vehicles then struck a third vehicle, a grey Dodge SUV, which was travelling southbound on Centre Road. The SUV overturned and came to a stop on its roof in the west ditch of Centre Road, north of Nairn Road.
The lone occupant of the car, a 74 year old female, Mary MURRAY-WARDLAW, from Oshawa, Ontario, is deceased, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The lone occupant of the transport truck, a 50 year old male from Bosanquet Township, Ontario, was uninjured. The lone occupant of the SUV, a 41 year old male from Chatham, Ontario, was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries and has been discharged.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
As a result, Centre Road was closed from Coldstream Road to Elginfield Road. Nairn Road was closed from Springbank Road to Haskett Road. Motorists had to avoid the area and find alternative routes until the area roads were re-opened at approximately 11:15 p.m..
