(SUDBURY, ON)- The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 17 earlier today.
Members of the Sudbury OPP detachment responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 17 and Southwiew Drive shortly after 3:15 PM. Preliminary investigation reveals that a Chevrolet van attempted to cross Highway 17 Northbound on Southview Drive and was struck broadside by an eastbound Ford pick up truck that was pulling a trailer.
The 80 year old female driver of the van from Southern Ontario was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The female passenger of the pick up was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the male driver was not injured.
Highway 17 was closed for about 2 hours to allow officers to investigate the collision and remove the vehicles from the highway. The investigation is continuing.
