(East-Hawkesbury, ON) – Officers of the Hawkesbury OPP are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning on Highway 417, approximately 5 kilometers west of the Quebec border, shortly after 11:30 am.
A 65 year old female driver was heading eastbound on Highway 417 near the St-Eugène exit, when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of her car and drove off the road, hitting a tree.
The driver, a resident of the Province of Quebec, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner and Technical Traffic Collision Investigator are assisting Hawkesbury OPP Constable Raoul Doucet with the investigation.
The road has been closed since and is expected to be closed for a few hours. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible. A detour was set up for the eastbound traffic at the County Road 17 on ramp and the Barb Road exit.
The identity of the driver has yet to be confirmed and notification to the family of the victim has not been completed at the time of the release.
The matter is under investigation.
