Fatal Collision Near Schools

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On April 19, 2016, at approximately 1:34 p.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a crash on Catherine Street.

A red Kawasaki motorcycle was travelling westbound on Catherine Street, and collided with an orange Jeep sport utility vehicle (SUV) travelling eastbound on Catherine Street.

The driver, and lone occupant of the motorcycle, a 30-year-old male from Thames Centre, Ontario, is deceased. His name is being withheld pending notification of next-of kin.

The driver, and lone occupant of the Jeep, a 45-year-old female from Thames Centre, Ontario, was transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collison Investigators (TTCI) are attending the scene to assist with the investigation. As a result, Catherine Street is closed between Richmond Street and Shaw Road.

The roadway is expected to be closed for some time, and motorists will have to find alternative routes.

The crash occurred in close proximity to two elementary schools. Agencies are cooperating in order to get students to their after-school destinations.
