Fatal Collision Near Clinton This Morning

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers remain at the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash that took place early this morning west of Clinton.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Huron County OPP officers received a 9-1-1 call from a passerby that had found a heavily damaged vehicle on Bayfield Road (County Road #13) just west of Airport Line. Officers immediately responded to the scene whereupon they located a Saturn Vue in the south ditch of Bayfield Road.

The preliminary investigation has determined the driver of the Saturn Vue was travelling westbound on Bayfield Road when he failed to properly negotiate a curve in the roadway. He lost control of his vehicle and was ejected from the vehicle when the vehicle rolled.

With the assistance of West Region Canine the driver was located in the south ditch of Bayfield Road. The male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators from the West Region OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) Team are currently on scene assisting with the collision investigation.

The identity of the deceased will be released pending next of kin notification.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled.

Bayfield Road remains closed between Bannockburn Line and Airport Line. To avoid delays motorists should take alternate routes.
