(ESPANOLA, ON) – On December 27, 2013 at 8:15 p.m., officers from the Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a motorized snow vehicle and a pedestrian on Lee Valley Road, Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.
Preliminary investigation revealed an eastbound motorized snow vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on the south shoulder of Lee Valley Rd. struck a male pedestrian who was also eastbound on the south shoulder of the road.
The male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the snowmobile was transported to Espanola General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator.
No names are being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
Post mortems will be conducted in Sudbury on Monday, December 30th and Tuesday, December 31st, 2013.
