Fatal Collision Closes Mountain Road

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) closed down Mountain Road for several hours last night as a result of a fatal motor vehicle collision.

On March 10 2016 shortly after 6:30pm, OPP officers along with members of the Collingwood Fire Department and Simcoe County Paramedics were dispatched to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Mountain Road just west of the Tenth Line. Investigation so far has found that, for an unknown reason, a west bound Dodge Dakota pickup truck crossed the center line, into the east bound lane and collided with a full size Prevost bus.

The driver of the pickup died at scene while the passenger was extricated by the Collingwood Fire Department and transported to an area hospital where he was subsequently transferred to a Toronto area hospital with life threatening injuries. His condition is not known at this time.

The majority of the passengers of the bus were treated at scene from which two were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

OPP Traffic Collision Investigators were dispatched to the scene where the road remained closed until approximately 6:00am as a result of the investigation into the crash.

The identity of the deceased will be released later today.
