FATAL COLLISION

(KENORA, ON) – Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing their investigation into a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Monday, November 11, 2013. Police were called to a report of two pedestrians being struck by a vehicle at around 9:45 am. Police and Emergency Medical Services attended the corner of Matheson Street and First Street South in Kenora. The investigation revealed two women crossing First St S were struck by a southbound vehicle turning east onto First St S.

Both women were transported by ambulance to Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LOWDH). One woman was later transferred to Winnipeg Health Science Centre where she succumbed to her injuries. The deceased has been identified as 79 year old Marlyn (pronounced Marlin) LOWES of Kenora. The other woman, an 83 year old Kenora resident was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.

A 59 year old Kenora woman has been charged with Fail to yield to Pedestrian under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with the investigation.
