(LEEDS, ON) – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing their investigation into the crash on Highway 401 early this morning which claimed one life. The westbound lanes of the Highway near Highway 29 were closed while police investigated.
At 12:24 am officers responded to reports of a vehicle with its 4-way flashers on parked on the shoulder of the 401, and a second call regarding a pedestrian in a live lane of traffic on Highway 401 westbound near mile marker 689. When officers arrived they located a deceased male near the center cement median with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. A transport was located at the nearby service centre with damage consistent with striking a pedestrian. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending positive identification.
The Highway was closed for the Technical Collision Investigators to complete their investigation. The investigation is continuing.
