(Bancroft, Ontario) – At approximately 11:15 PM on the night of the 25th of July 2015, police and ambulance were dispatched to a family dispute at a residence on Highway 62 in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands, in the area of the community of Bird’s Creek.
Officers from the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police attended the scene and learned that a family social gathering had been taking place at that location, with several of the participants consuming alcohol. It was eventually determined that a dispute had broken out during the gathering, that resulted in a domestic assault having taken place.
While trying to conduct their investigation, and dealing with several intoxicated and uncooperative individuals, a glass container was thrown at officers by one of the participants at the event. Further, while officers were attempting to respond to the incident, several individuals who had been involved in the gathering were located walking along Highway 62 in an intoxicated state, and were arrested.
As a result of the events of the family gathering, police have charged a 33 year old St. Catharines male with being intoxicated in a public place, a 26 year old Thorold male with being intoxicated in a public place, a 60 year old St. Catharines male with assault, and a 30 year old St. Catharines female with two counts of assault police.
The individuals charged with the criminal offences of assault and assault police were released from custody and given a first appearance date for court of the 18th of August 2015. The individuals arrested for public intoxication were given Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) upon their release.
