Escaped Prisoners Located In Kenora

(KENORA, ON) – Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have located three males who escaped from a youth correctional facility in Kenora on December 14, 2014. Police received the call just before 10:00 pm that three inmates had escaped from the facility and were currently at large in the city.

Police immediately began a search of the area, assisted by a K9 Unit and members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT). The three males were located in a residence and taken into custody just after 2:00 am on December 15, 2014.

As a result of this investigation 19-year-old Wendel STRANG from Pikangikum First Nation and 18-year-old Sage PAYPOMPEE from Naotkamegwanning First Nation as well as a 17-year-old youth from Kenora who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act have been charged with the following three offences contrary to the Criminal Code:

Escape Lawful Custody contrary to section 145(1)(a)

Robbery with Violence section 344(1)(b)

Unlawfully in Dwelling House section 349(1).

All three of the accused have been held in custody and are scheduled to appear in Kenora Criminal Court on December 15, 2014.
