Ernest FRENCH – Flight From Police, Assault, Breach

(CHIPPEWAS OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – A male driver is facing numerous charges after his vehicle fled from police.

On April 6, 2015, at approximately 8:20 p.m., members of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police initiated a traffic stop on Maitland Road near Three Fires Road, but the vehicle failed to stop for police. The male was wanted on outstanding warrants.

A Suspect Apprehension Pursuit (SAP) was initiated, with assistance from the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police and the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The suspect male operated the vehicle, a grey Chevrolet pickup truck, in a dangerous manner, at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle struck two police cruisers which sustained damage. One of the responding officers suffered a minor injury. The suspect male was not injured.

The vehicle was eventually stopped on Ball Park Road. The male fled on foot, but was apprehended by police, placed under arrest, and held in custody.

As a result of the investigation, police have charged the accused, Ernest FRENCH, age 33, of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Ontario, under the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) with:

Flight while pursued by peace officer X3

Dangerous operation of motor vehicle

Assault with a weapon X2

Resist peace officer

Fail to comply with recognizance

He was further charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with driving while under suspension.

The accused will be answering to the charges in a London court.
