(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to advise the public of an email fraud that has occurred in the City of Orillia.
The Orillia OPP investigated two incidents in the past several days involving victims receiving emails that stated they were from Revenue Canada. The emails asked for personal information including name, address, date of birth and Social Insurance number to confirm the person’s identity. Investigation revealed that the emails were not sent by Revenue Canada.
The OPP would like to remind the public that personal information should not be given out to anyone until the requester has been confirmed to be legitimate.
