(BAYHAM TWP, ON) – After three days of searching, Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirms they have recovered the body of the missing swimmer in Port Burwell.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. July 27, 2014 Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Bayham Fire and Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of a missing swimmer in Port Burwell. A group of youths were swimming out by the pier on the main beach in Port Burwell when they came to a deeper section of the water. One male youth began to struggle and went under water and the others were having difficulty in the water. When the group was pulled to safety, it was discovered the one youth was missing.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit responded with the assistance of Elgin County OPP, Central Elgin Fire and Bayham Fire Services.
