(Ottawa) With many students returning from March Break, the Ottawa Police Service East Division Traffic Unit will be teaming up with internal partners to conduct a proactive traffic enforcement blitz in school zones located within Ottawa’s East and South end.
The enforcement blitz will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2014 and focusing on traffic safety in and around school zones and paying special attention to motorists:
speeding in school zones,
failing to stop, failing to yield to pedestrians at school crossings,
failing to obey crossing guards,
failing to obey school bus signs, and
using handheld electronic devices.
In 2013 during school hours and weekdays, there were113 reported collisions in school zones in the Ottawa’s East Division (excluding rural areas).
