East Algoma OPP Press Releases

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On December 8, 2016, shortly after 5:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a westbound vehicle all over the road on Highway 17, near the village of Spragge.

Minutes later, police were then advised the westbound vehicle had now gone into the ditch. Police attended the scene. The driver of the westbound was not injured and no damage to the vehicle.

As a result, Joseph HUMPHRIES, 26 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);

SUSPENDED DRIVER CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On December 10, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m., police were advised of a traffic complaint and the vehicle had entered the parking lot of a local coffee shop. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation determined the driver was suspended.

As a result, Shawn CHERRY, 29 years of age, from Powassan, Ontario, was charged with: Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 15, 2017.
