(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On January 31, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.
Shortly after 9:00 a.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Police activated its emergency lights and the vehicle would not pull over. Police followed the vehicle onto Woodward Avenue where it finally stopped for police.
As a result Xiao PENG, 30 years of age from Woodbridge, Ontario was charged with:
Fail to Stop when signalled or requested to do so by a police officer, contrary to section 216(2) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
Disobey sign, contrary to section 182(2) of the HTA.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 29, 2017
15 YEAR OLD MALE CHARGED FOR UTHERING THREATS
(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On February 1, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threats complaint at a residence in the Township of the North Shore.
Police learned that a male had been contacting his ex-girlfriend for the past two months through social media and threatened to harm her.
As a result of the investigation, a 15 year old male, from Iron Bridge, Ontario, was charged with: Uttering Threats-Cause Death or Harm (Spousal) contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 23, 2017.
FEMALE CHARGED-NO INSURANCE
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On February 1, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 in the Town of Blind River.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., police observed a westbound vehicle with an expired validation sticker on its plate. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation also determined the vehicle was not insured.
As a result, Sheila BOYER, 37 years of age, from Mississauga First Nation, Ontario was charged with:
Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act; and
Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 29, 2017.
DRIVER CHARGED WITH NO INSURANCE CARD
(BLIND RIVER, ON) On February 2, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 in the Town of Blind River.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., police observed a vehicle and initiated a stop. Police asked the driver for his insurance card. The driver could not produce one.
As a result, Carl SAARELA, 43 years of age from Blind River was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Fail to Surrender Insurance Card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
