(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 29, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 108 in the City of Elliot Lake.

Police observed a southbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 108. A traffic stop was initiated. As a result of the investigation, the male driver was found to be suspended.

James SULLIVAN, 24 years of age, from Rayside-Balfour, Ontario, was charged with:

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and

Speeding, contrary to section 128, of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on September 21, 2016.

MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 29, 2016, shortly before 4:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault in the City of Elliot Lake.

A family member was helping her mother and younger brother move into their new home. An argument escalated to the point where the younger brother assaulted his older sister.

As a result of the investigation, Spencer PETTEFER, 18 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with: Assault, contrary to section 266, of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on September 6, 2016.

NO SEATBELT- MALE CHARGED

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 29, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Hillside Drive North in the City of Elliot Lake.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., police observed a male passenger in a pickup truck not wearing his seatbelt assembly. A traffic stop was initiated. As a result, Ben ALBERT, 20 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Passenger-Fail to Properly Wear Seat Belt contrary to section 106(3)(b) of the Highway Traffic Act.
