(THESSALON, ON)- On August 26, 2016, shortly after 10:30 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a suspicious vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 17 west of the Town of Bruce Mines.
A traffic stop was initiated on Highway 17 near the Town of Thessalon. Investigation revealed the female driver was a G1 driver and not in company of qualified driver. She also could not produce a permit for the vehicle she was driving.
As a result, Courtney NOBLE, 19 years of age from Aweres Township, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:
Class G1 Licence Holder-Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver, contrary to section 5(1) of Ontario Regulations 340/94 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the HTA.
SUSPENDED DRIVER CHARGED
(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON) – On August 26, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, east of the Town of Thessalon.
Shortly after 11:00 a.m., police observed an eastbound pick-up truck and conducted a licence plate query and revealed the registered owner was a suspended driver. A traffic stop was initiated. The driver was in fact the registered owner.
As a result, John MCCALLUM, from Iron Bridge, Ontario, was charged with: Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on October 5, 2016.
MALE AND FEMALE CHARGED WITH DRIVING OFFENCES
(TARBUTT ADDITIONAL TOWNSHIP, ON) – On August 28, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 548 within Tarbutt Additional Township.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., police observed a vehicle with blue lights on the front of the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted on Highway 17. The male driver produced an expired insurance card. The female passenger was the registered owner and could not produce an updated insurance card. Investigation revealed the car was not insured.
As a result, Kristy BUDGE, 18 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, was charged with: Owner Cause Operation of Motor Vehicle on a Highway-No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(b) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on October 12, 2016.
Brandon WILLIAMS, 20 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:
Drive Motor Vehicle, No Validation on Plates, contrary to section 7(1)(c)(i) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
Unauthorized Red and Blue Lights at Front, contrary to section 62(14.1) of the HTA.
The vehicle was towed.
