DUMP TRUCK HITS HYDRO LINES

(Adjala-Tosorontio Township, ON) On the 27th of October 2014, at approximately 9:45 a.m. members of the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to down hydro lines at Highway 89 and Concession Road 7 in the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio.

Further investigation revealed that a dump truck had accidently hit the lines during an unload and caused the lines to break. The emergency crews repaired the lines and power was restored to the area a short time afterwards.

An officer from the Nottawasaga OPP inspected the dump truck and as a result several charges were laid on the driver and the owner of the dump truck.

The following charges were laid on the driver, 69-year old Everett man and the Alliston Company who owned the dump truck:

Push rod stroke exceeds limit – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, Regulation 587
Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, Section 107(4)(b)
Over height of vehicle – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, Section 109(14)
Drive commercial vehicle with major defect in it – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, Section 107(11)
