Drunk Tractor Trailer Driver Nearly Hits Cruiser – Name Relased

On Saturday, December 30, 2017 at approximately 3:30 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop on Mayfield Road east of Dixie Road with a white 2014 Freightliner (tractor trailer) after the officer observed the commercial motor vehicle nearly strike a stationary cruiser that had its emergency lights activated.

During the traffic stop, the officer determined that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of alcohol and arrested the driver accordingly.

As a result, Devapalan Stellaris Joseph DEVASAGAYAM, 61, of Scarborough was charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada: Driving While Ability Impaired- Motor Vehicle (Alcohol) and Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on January 11, 2018 to answer to the charges.
