Drunk Driver Tries Running From Police – Found Hiding In Bedroom

(TOWNSHIP OF CHATSWORTH, ON) – On Sunday, May 17, 2015 at approximately 5:05 p.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division – Mt. Forest R.I.D.E. Unit on patrol attempted to stop a 2011 Dodge Ram pick-up truck for speeding on the Sullivan-Bentinck Townline in the Township of Chatsworth.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for police and, after a brief pursuit, pulled into a private laneway on Concession 12 in the Township of Chatsworth where he exited the vehicle and fled inside the residence.

Police discovered that the residence was owned by an acquaintance, who was outside at the time, and who permitted the officer to go after the suspect. The suspect, who was found hiding in one of the bedrooms, was subsequently arrested without incident and taken to the Chatsworth Detachment for breath tests, which he had failed.

Reginald John HATTEN, 58, of Brockton, Ontario was charged with the following:

– impaired driving

– driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood over 80 mgs

– flight while pursued by a Peace Officer

– mischief under $5,000; and

– speeding

He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, June 18, 2015.
