Drunk Driver Sends Officer To Hospital – 41 Year Old Arrested

(OTONABEE-SOUTH MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a collision on Peterborough County Road 28 in the Village of Bailieboro shortly after 8:30pm yesterday evening.

Citizen witnesses began to call into the Provincial Communication Centre (PCC) after they witnessed a northbound pickup truck strike a parked OPP cruiser. The officer was treated and released from an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The male driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.

During the investigation the driver of the pickup truck was found to have been drinking. Eion Douglas SPENCE (age 41) of Pontypool, ON was arrested and charged with:

Impaired driving – causing bodily harm

Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood

The accused appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario on March 09, 2017.
