(ONEIDA NATION OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – On August 9, 2015 at approximately 3:39 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the OPP West Region (WR) Highway Safety Division (HSD), assisted the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police, with a single motor vehicle crash on Ballpark Road.
A grey Chrysler car was travelling southbound on Ballpark Road, north of Townline Road, when it left the roadway. The vehicle continued travelling off the roadway on the west side of Ballpark Road, where it struck a hydro pole. It came to a rest on its wheels on the roadway, after rolling over.
The 17-year-old female passenger, from St. Thomas, Ontario, was ejected in the crash. She was transported by ambulance with life-threatening injuries to hospital, where she is currently listed in critical condition.
The 19-year-old male driver was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, and was subsequently discharged.
Ballpark Road, between Townline Road and Walker Road, was closed while the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation. It has since been re-opened.
Police determined the driver had been drinking alcohol, and he was arrested. As a result of the police investigation, River DOXTATOR, from St. Thomas, Ontario, has been charged with driving while ability impaired cause bodily harm (motor vehicle – alcohol), and fail or refuse to provide sample 254(2), contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
He was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charges in a London court on September 9, 2015.
